The Future Business Leader Scholarship

The Future Business leader Scholarship will award three $1000 scholarships, one to each local high school, to help the recipients pursue further education in business-related studies, or the trades with the intention to pursue their own business after their studies.

Entrepreneurship is an attitude, a behaviour and a set of values. When combined with the qualities of creativity, innovation, risk-taking and a strong need to achieve, the result is an individual whose style lights paths of opportunity for others to follow.

Criteria

To qualify for the Future Business Leader Scholarship, the applicant must be graduating from a participating high school during the 2023-2024 academic year and pursuing further education at a Canadian post-secondary institution in business-related studies (commerce, accounting, finance, marketing, IT, graphic design…), or a trade with the intention to pursue their own business after their studies.

Applicants will be judged on the following:

· Past entrepreneurial activity both in and out of school

· A future vision of entrepreneurial opportunities/career path

· Communication skills

· Initiative and character

· Community involvement

Application Requirements

To apply, students must:

· Be a resident of Nova Scotia

· Be graduating from a participating high school during the 2023-2024 academic year

· Complete and submit:

1. The application form

2. A short introduction of yourself and your interest in business/entrepreneurship/trades (approx. 300 words)

3. An official high school transcript

4. Two letters of personal reference. One must be from a school official, such as a teacher, principal, or guidance counselor. Reference letters may not be submitted from family members.

AND ONE OF “A” or “B”

A) Submit an essay describing your entrepreneurial experiences or vision and/or your plans for post-secondary education and career path. The essay should comment on how your interests and ambitions can be realized by an entrepreneurial or business career (approx. 500 words). This is in addition to the personal introduction.

B) Submit a business plan, including as much detail as possible. The business plan should include an executive summary, company information, including goals, products or services offered, market, marketing, operations, management, financial information, and a summary. Students who have completed a business plan for an Entrepreneurship course could submit this plan.
