Andy Horsnell and the Centre for Local Prosperity proposes a very interesting, and very applicable model for rural Nova Scotia – could this be a model for Antigonish?

This model takes the Ivany Report’s recommendation of “increase exports for economic growth” and turns it on its ear.  Increase exports can be difficult; however, decreasing imports by sourcing locally can have a similar impact.

It is suggested that by identifying local community economic anchors (i.e. the Hospital and the University) and working with them to decrease their imports by i.e. 10{724894637525eb13b4365534dc3b2cc1f9048728292861ba35c8e22a86f398f6} and  in turn source local, this additional 10{724894637525eb13b4365534dc3b2cc1f9048728292861ba35c8e22a86f398f6} of demand for local goods and services will help local business to grow and even spark an increase in local business start-ups.
